DBWI: no landing in Pas de Calais, Normandy instead

As you all know Stalin demanded a second front in Europe. In 1944 the Anglo-American forces launched Operation Overlord and landed in Pas de Calais. It is a know fact that there was a lot of debate about whether or not to invade in Normandy instead. It would have been more more difficult logistics wise but it was not as well defended as Calais.

As you all know Calais had the heaviest defences in the Atlantik Wall and the subsequent allied landings were a massacre thanks to Rommel's quick thinking and a bunch of low clouds drifting in during the landings, taking away allied air superiority. Germany still lost the war after the nuking of Munich and Nuremburg and Soviet ranks on the Oder close to eastern Germany though.

What would have happened if the allies had landed in Normandy and/or without that pesky cloud cover drifting in right when the landings were taking place or an accurate weather forecast?

We all know what a horrible massacre the landing was. The attempted misdirection was completely anticipated by Hitler. By holding back the main body of his forces he was able to surround the Allies and obliterate the invading troops. The Allies were forced to pull back and the Americans chose to focus on the Japanese first while increasing support to the USSR. While The USA nuked the Japanese into submission Eastern Europe was turned into a 'dead zone'

' July 14th, 1945, When we walked across the fields this summer, where so many of our fellow soldiers fell, it seemed as if the blood of the fallen was pushed back into the sunlight'

- Herman Albrecht, The fear of a soldier.

After the Japanese surrender it was decided that bombing Munich would also force the Germans to surrender.

Well its a tricky one but the Soviets wouldnt be half as strong as they are these days.

Strong? You must be joking. Operation Bagration was a Pyrhicc victory at best. By August 1945 they were stuck halfway through Poland. Then Munich and Nuremberg were nuked which rendered the possibility of future offensives mute. Maybe it was good thing that Germany won at Calais. The Soviets only got half of Poland instead of the whole thing and no German territory at all. They did conquer Finland to compensate for that. I feel sorry for those poor bastards.

When they started to smell Japan's blood they also conquered the whole of Korea in July. They weren't going anywhere in eastern Europe (man power problems). It is also argued that Romania would have surrendered to the Soviets had Bagration been a crushing defeat for Germany. The loss of the Ploiesti oilfields would have crippled the Wehrmacht.

Yes but without the failure of Overlord and the bombing of Munich the west might have been able to come up with some sort of alliance to counter the Warsaw Pact, who knows they might have even taken those guys who made the V-2s ,Von Braun I think his name was,if they hadnt died in Munich we might have the Russkies to the Moon.

i guess our troops wouldn't have been sliced up so much, it was almost as the information was leaked. even after we intentionally leaked normandy for misdirection.... i don't think any of those soldiers returned home alive.
