DBWI: No Irish Assassination of Edward VIII

On 16 July 1936, the relatively new King of The United Kingdom, Edward VIII, was riding on horseback with his mistress Wallis Simpson at Hyde Park near Buckingham Palace. Little does he knew that as sudden as it was, an Irish Republican Army member, George Andrew Campbell MacMahon suddenly produced a revolver in close range and shot the King three times in his head and chest, and two shots pierced his Mistress' torso as the latter tried to protect the fallen King. The King was pronounced dead on the spot and his Mistress will soon follow after a week of hospitalization.

Said Assassin was then reportedly trying to run away on foot while threatening everyone who stands in his way with his revolver, forcing members of The Metropolitan Police to shoot him dead as he actively resisting arrest and carrying a deadly weapon.

Prince Albert and Dowager Queen Mary were quickly informed of the tragedy that befalls on their elder brother and son, and as heir presumptive, Prince Albert was quickly crowned as King George VI of the United Kingdom.

While King Edward VIII was rather unpopular with the parliament and government for being unorthodox King who was perceived to interference in Political Matters, his death cements him as an (ironically) beloved Martyr to the British Empire. The investigation uncovered this as a plot made by Irish Republican, and the discovery of Irish Parliament trying to remove all the direct mention of The Monarch from Irish Constitution cemented the reputation of Irish Free State as the one responsible for the Regicide, resulting in a bloody war that was War of Irish Resubjugation.

Now, what will happen if King Edward VIII never being assassinated? Could this result in Ireland's dominion status never being revoked, or even a relatively peaceful transition to an independent Republic?
