DBWI: No Emirate of Qurnuba?

What if Andalusians never conquered Ingiliya and Ayriya, preventing the formation of the Emirate of Qurnuba?

Moorish piracy had reached the area before, but the invasion seemed to be on a whim, so it's probably not inevitable.

I believe before the invasion, the site of initial landing was called Cornovia. The larger island in its entirety was called Britannia, and the smaller one was called Hibernia.

You do realize the conquest of Ingiliya and Ayriya was relatively short lived, right? It didn't even last more than a century! Hell, the only reason Qurnuba is still around is because invasion, whether by Hibernia, England, or Scotland, could have resulted in a decades-long twilight war(OOC: guerrilla war).

OOC: I'll assume here that Qurnuba, today, is just OTL's Cornwall and Devonshire.

OOC: It's the British Isles. Like how the Muslims called Europeans "Franks".

IC: Of course it didn't remain under Andalusian rule, or united. But the invasion is not only the main reason why the isles of Qurnuba practice Maghribi Islam, but the main reason why Maghribi Islam diverges so drastically from other sects.

And the main reason al-Qurnuba (OOC: a city, probably in southwestern England, like the country of Mexico versus the city of Mexico) is still around is probably the Suleymanid citadel :p. The politics of the region after the invasion, of course, were another key reason, as you said.

OOC: Nope, these things work as the first poster to define something takes precedence - you gave neither duration nor extent of Muslim Britain, so Caliboy is in his rights to say Ingliya was temporary. Also, Mexico is named after the city, not the other way around.

IC: Bah, call her by her proper name, Calat Dur al-Qurnuba.

More on topic, the Qurnubans invaded the West Saxons after Dumnonia. King ... Ina, I think his name was, ... was busy expanding that kingdom's power. Maybe he would have been succesful without a Moorish army suddenly slamming into his rear.

OOC: When did we get so stringent on the rules of DBWI's? Did I miss a memo about Ian setting firm guidelines about it? Because I'm inclined to back Zuvraq for actually making the thread.

OOC: I referred to Hibernia, Britannia, and Cornovia as ancient, no longer used names, and Ayriya and Ingliya as the modern names, implying that Hibernia at the least has become usurped and assimilated by the invaders.

And as others said, I posted the thread.

Plus the art of DBWI's is reinterpreting people's posts. Just as Caliboy reinterpreted my post, I reinterpreted his post.
