Charles, Prince Napoleon, distinguished himself during WWII. Intitially forbidden from joining the French Military by Daladier (originally he was exiled in Belgium as all family members of the french monarchies were) he assumed a fake name (Louis Blanchard) and joined the French Foreign Legion where he served in North Africa.

After his North African campaign service Charles Bonaparte went on to join the French Resistance. He was nearly captured by the Germans crossing the Pyrenees as he attempted to join up with DeGaulle in London, and it was through this relationship and his amazing story that he would go on to be De Gaulle's successor in 1969 - an achievement that would go on to be referred to as the "Second Bonaparte Restoration" in France.

What if Bonaparte had never become President of France?
