DBWI: Nixon Resigns

What if President Nixon succumbed to pressures to resign, rather than remaining in office and being impeached. What would've been the consequences?

the republicena party would never of won in 1976 like they did with president Charles percy . I think regan would of been elected around 84 after eight years of a democrat.

The Republicans might do a bit better in 1974.

Oh, god, Percy? Look, he lost fair and square to Frank Church. Just because he won the popular vote doesn't make him President.

He didn't win the popular vote. I don't know why so many conspiracy theories of Church committing fraud exist. He ran against corruption in government, for goodness sakes. And he won a landslide.

I think Church may not run in 1976. He may not be pushed to do so. The result is that an ideology different than his pragmatic progressivism becomes the ideology that defines America.

Sure, sure, I know that. We always get these "Oh, Church cheated!" guys. Drives me nuts. Of course, maybe Nelson Rockefeller would get the nomination in '76 in this scenario. After all, Rocky was President, but he had that heart attack, right?
