DBWI:New England as a state?

As everyone knows New England has been independent from the USA for almost 200 years now with its control over most of the eastern Seaboard and with the election in New York coming soon I have to wonder what the US would look like with a claim to land like that not to mention potential effects on Canada

What the hell does Canada matter? They are mostly French at this point. I suppose the whole Acadian Explusion drama will include the rest of the Former Thirteen if all of them stay united.

Well the the US would certainly be even more powerful than they already are. I mean, they already control most of the continent west of the Appalachians so adding New England would add millions more people and a bunch of excellent harbors and manufacturing centers. On the other hand the US has always been isolationist and extremely adverse to getting involved in European affairs, especially compared to the much more Euro-centric New England. I can certainly see a US that controls New England getting involved in the European conflicts of the 1800's the way NE did.

The civil war against the southern slave owners might have been won quicker then historically. The addition of new Englands people and industry would have tipped the scales in the unions favor far sooner then historically. Also I guess you wouldnt see the massive amount of war profiteering New England industrialists engaged in.

OOC get rid of most of the abolitionists, and we still got a Civil War for the same reason?

Canada would get another port in the form of Halifax which could be interesting perhaps New England would be Canadian? I’m not sure how the us would deal with all of those industrialists

You might even get an scenario where rather than the Union of Free States breaking off from a southern slaver dominated United States, a Southern Confederation breaks off from an abolitionist dominated United States. It should be noted that the War of Northern Secession was not called the "Civil War" until after the freestaters decisively defeated the US in the 2nd American War some 20 years later, forced them to ban slavery, and re-joined it.
