DBWI: National Association replaced by the National League

Since its formation in 1871, the National Association of Baseball Players has prided itself as bring the very best institution in all of North American sports. But think for a moment on what could have been, like for instance, what would have happened if the NA had not charged higher than $10 USD for teams to enter the league, or if the NA was unable to iron out scheduling and governing kinks early in its existence?

One of the owners wanted to start up a league called the National League, but it never got off the ground. He had a team in Chicago, and with the size of Chicago the NA had no problem finding an owner to replace him.

The difference would have been mostly nominal. The demand for baseball is there and someone's going to fill it.
