DBWI Napoleon doesn't escape

OK, so there is no ship available to take Napoleon across the Atlantic after Waterloo (or he doesn't get through the blockade) and he has to surrender to the Allies. What happens? Do they execute him? How does this affect the course of events in the Western Hemisphere?

I don't think they would want to execute him, but where could they put him that he wouldn't be able to escape from - even, preferably, not even be found on? The Chagos Islands maybe?

The history of North America would certainly be different. Without him stirring up trouble in Quebec, things would have settled down a lot quicker. Maybe the area would even be majority English-speaking by now.

Well I think that the demographic boost in the XIXth century where Canadiens bred like rabbits may have happened anyway.
But the story of Canadien nationalism may have been much milder, maybe with the Brits managing to give the name of Canada to Hudsonia.

IIRC, Napoleon wrote a sentence in his youth about a little island in the Atlantic Ocean. Maybe the British would have send him there, just for the irony.

Not escaping across the pond would certainly butterfly his second wife, of course. No 'Henri Napoleon' or 'Charles Napoleon'. Of course, some might say that would have been a good thing, considering what their families got up to afterwards!

Don't think I've heard of that - where was it? That one used by the Portuguese to imprison their malcontents later in the century (Ilha da Ascensão)?
[OOC: Ascension Island was only claimed by the British after putting Napoleon on St. Helena, so maybe it could have been claimed by the Portuguese instead?]
