DBWI: Muhammad founded a new religion

In the 7th century, Muhammad united the Arab tribes under the banner of Nestorian Christianity after a vision he had in 610 AD but what if he interpreted his vision differently and established a new religion. How successful would this new religion be? Would the Arabs have had the same success under this new religion as they did under Nestorianism historically?

I doubt it would get anywhere; the rise of Christianity in the Middle East was inevitable. Perhaps we would see less Arab conquests and maybe today Asia Minor and North Africa wouldn't speak Arabic.

I wonder how Persia would have been affected by this. Historically, Persia was one of the most rebellious areas of the Arab Empire, holding fast to their Zoroastrian beliefs.

He probalby would have still united Arabia, his successors would have conquered an immense territory, but disputes between them would have split the original followers and various dynasties would be bloodily deposed, resulting in ruin for the new Arab and Islamic world. SOme peripheral dynasties would have conquered huge swats of land and proclaimed themselves leaders of the faithfull, but their claims wouldnt be recognized outside of their core territories.
