I personally think that the idea that Operation Sealion could possibly have failed is one of the most ridiculous ideas anyone could come up with.

Let me put it this way:

THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE BRITISH FLEET STATIONED AT SCAPA FLOW COULD POSSIBLY SAIL THROUGH THE MINEFIELDS AT EACH END OF THE ENGLISH CHANNEL. NO WAY. NONE. AND NO, THEY COULD NOT HAVE SUCCESSFULLY EXTRICATED THEIR FORCES FROM FRANCE. THE GERMAN U-BOAT THREAT AND THE SPEED OF THE GERMAN ADVANCE PREVENTED THIS COMPLETELY.

Whew! Just needed to vent a little.

I have to say its the USA becoming a global power. There is no possible way such a fragmented and unstable country could have become a power, much less an agricultural one like the USA. Some people even have it expand across the continent into the Pacific!!! Come on!!! What it somehow miraculously is able to eat its way through the British the French and the Mexican Empires, not to mention having to deal with all the independent Indian Nations. Preposterous I say!!!

the German or Italian states unifying into a single country. Austria is just too powerful to let either from happening. Prussia is strong but nowhere strong enough to beat Austria, and France. This shit happens almost as much as the Confederacy of American States actually succeeding at independence. Although that might have been a good thing in retrospect since the CAS reintegration back into the US was what historians commonly consider to be what caused the US to suffer from so many of it's current problems today.

The battle of Midway. One big fleet looses all capital ships against a much smaller that had all the kodes and its airplanes made a perfect coordinated attack even though they wernt coordinated.

Or what about that guy in Sweden who escaped from danish hospitality, ran through the entire country up to a northen province and then started a rebellion that ended the Kalmarunion. Thats hard to belive. We in the united states of Scandinavia would never go to war against eachoter

ooc: Might be a good idea to keep in touch with previous posts. So far, we have the "CS" winning the "AWS" (I'm assuming the American War of Secession, although technically that's not cannon ITTL), a balkanized America, but the Confederacy of American States succeeding at independence. The first two can fit, but it seems weird that in a balkanized area, it'd be considered a cliche timeline to have some confederacy secede (esp since a confederacy, by definition, is more than one area... why are these areas so unified in a balkanized continent?). There's also both a Germany powerful enough to Sealion the British Empire, and independent Prussia and Austria. Seems weird that Germany would be that powerful ITTL, even though it loses out on two major geographic regions.

The ones that have the British Empire falling after the Second Great War seem the silliest and somewhat antianglowank from the anti imperialism crowd.

And then there are the timelines where Francis Urquhart never became Prime Minister of the Anglo-American Empire.

Silly. Just silly if you ask me.

Hmm.

I have to admit I see a lot of Dystopian DBWIs appearing:

What if the Pope rejected the Mohammedian Sect
? Who the heck would be so stupid as to reject a massive effort and alliance from a region that's historically resisted them?

What if the bizarre notion of Racism was commonly accepted in Europe? Seriously, its not like modern science needed to prove this for even hardscrabble peasants to know better.

What if the King of Songhai did not marry the Queen of England-Normandy
?
Then he'd marry another European monarch, Duh!!!

Could the Colonization of Asgardia have been delayed into the 1300s? What could possibly stop the Viking or Chinese advance by 300 years?

A world without Han Li--because, obviously the Ming will get complacent instead of industrializing without him. Sure.

What if the CoLA had successfully seceeded from the SoLA
? This is madness; Erikland, Vinland and Delwar had far more resources than the Veronica-New Rotterdam region.

Could the Gold and Silver Pact have defeated the United Nations and dethrone Individualism? The National Activists and the Black Sun Party could never hope to prevail over the vast landscape of Tartary; nor could either hope to outpower Li Dynasty China or SoLA in a war.

The Valkerie Incident scraps SoLA's Space program: Two words--Not happening. There is no way that the Loss of Valkerie 1 results in the end of the space program.

The notion that the Tudor Dynasty (1485-1525) could have decisively ended the continuous instabilites of England and ushered in a golden age of peace and prosperity that lasted well into the seventeenth century is particularly specious.

Henry VII was a perfect tyrant who seized power in an opportunistic attack and was faced with almost constant pressure from the remaining Yorkist adherents. Upon his death his son Henry VIII did, to his credit, managed to end that particular feud but he can hardly be considered to have been a strong monarch and his death in 1525 left the country torn between the claims of James IV of Scotland and Charles Brandon, inciting another round of wars for the throne.

The conceit that Henry the Younger might have sired a second daughter and then a son by a succession of Queens and then dragged England into Protestantism is simply astonishing. Henry was a devout catholic and the Tudors had been very closely tied to Spain before the breach of relations with Charles V. It is conceivable, if unlikely, that he might have obtained a divorce from Queen Catherine and remarried to continue a dynasty as it is no secret that the once close relationship between them was in tatters, but the notion of no less than five more marriages is utterly ridiculous.

the one set of TLs that really annoy me are those concerning some sort of European military mission to the Levant some time around 1100. They always rely on the Romans asking for help or something dumb like that. Even if they had decided to go (invited or not) then they could never have gotten a useful army all that way back in the middle ages.

The even more ridiculous suggestion would be that such a European campaign would lead to a strong enough Egypt to resist the Mongol invasion in 1300, its just another annoying wank TL that seems to be quite popular
