DBWI Marxism dominant economic theory of the Left

While there was a big vogue among leftist political movements for the economic theories of Henry George, there is a fringe who think that the obscure German economist Karl Marx had the better critique of rentierism. What if Karl Marx had become really important, and George the fringe figure?

As for what what the left would be like with Marx as the leading figure it's hard to imagine given the massive butterflies. From what I understand from the little I've read about him when he does get mentioned in histories of the socialist movement most of what he wrote was critique of capitalism, rather than laying out a solid platform, and most of that critique was basically restating Proudhon.

Oh please, only Social Democrats and Liberals are into George. Us actual leftists follow Proudhon and G. D. H. Cole.
Different people claim different prime influences for "the left"; I've also heard it claimed "real leftists" are fundamentally followers of Max Stirner.

Anyway, as to the OP, the idea of Marx having more of an influence does sound promising; maybe he isn't killed in the turmoil of 1848?
