DBWI: Make this plausible.

Russia somehow fails to find the raw materials that would go on to make Alaska a crown jewel of the Empire and fund Alexander II's various projects. Bad for Russia (I don't think they could survive modernization without those funds), but good for whomever found those resources.

Last night, somebody vandalized Wikipedia, writing:
[In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States of America.]

Make this plausible.

By analogy to OTL's Louisiana, Mexico, and Cuba Purchases: have Russia
get into an expensive war with one of the other Powers (Britain, most likely)
forcing the Czar to sell Alaska.

I think you have Alaska confused with Alsace. Alaska is a country in northwestern North America. And you also are confusing the United States of Africa with the United States of America. The latter is a small country in eastern North America.
