DBWI: Make Portuguese the language of Brazil

It is interesting to imagine a Brazil where Portuguese is the language, and not Spanish. Of course, the odds were against it...Spain had a much larger population and was almost certain to win the Iberian War which resulted from its attempt to colonize what had previously been Portuguese territory in the New World, but could the South American continent have become bi-lingual?

I think it's a little insulting to Klein Venedig and Guyana (and to the surving native speakers) to call South American monolingual.
But beside that I think that Brazil will become Spanish speaking no matter what, there's no way Portugal will survive as a independent state.
