DBWI: Lon Nol lost?

As we all know, Lon Nol was an autocratic ruler who mishandled reconstruction significantly, and its effects can still be felt today. However, he nearly lost a civil war with the Cambodian Communists. What if he lost?

OOC: its POD is Pol Pot is killed by a US bomber.

OOC: That's actually quite plausible. Pham Van Dong and many of Giap's senior staff said they were against the Easter Offensive. Even Mao himself IOTL warned PVD "my broom is not long enough to reach Taiwan, nor yours to reach Saigon" and told a DRV delegation "anyone who doesn't negotiate with the Americans are bad guys... not real communists."

IC: I know how close it was both there and in SVN. Only an intervention by Park and Marcos prevented Ky from trying to rebel when Thieu won again in the 1975 and 1979 elections before his 1981 assassination.

well, Lon Nol messed up cambodian reconstruction badly IMO. Thank god he acceded to elections in 1982. I don't now how long the Khmer Republic could have lasted with him.
