DBWI: Lincoln Survives Baltimore

What if Abraham Lincoln survived his assassination in Baltimore in February, 1861? Would his legacy be better than Hamlin's?

I wonder if this effects the secession of most of Appalachia from their respective states back to the Union once the rest of the south secedes?

Lincoln was a bumbling backwoods lawyer. Winning the Republican nomination was basically an accident, due to the inability of the Seward and Chase camps to resolve their differences. I don't see how he could possibly have done any better than Hamlin did. Seriously, these threads of "if anybody but Hamlin had been President then maybe the South could have been kept in the Union" are getting tiresome.
