Both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis were born in Kentucky. Lincoln's family decided to move to Mississippi when Lincoln was around five, while Davis's family moved to Illinois when he was three. Both got into politics, with Lincoln becoming a Democrat and Davis becoming a Whig, but switching to the Republican Party when that party collapsed, and by March 4th, 1861 Lincoln was the provisional President of the Confederate States who while Davis was just beginning his presidency of the United States.
Had Lincoln's family decided to move up north, and if Davis's family decided to move south, and if their political careers and viewpoints were switched, how different would the Civil War be?
