DBWI: Lauren Faust's My Little Pony

I was looking around on a website about Lauren Faust, and it said that before she made Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls, Faust was a candidate for making the next My Little Pony generation, but she turned it down. So what if she accepted the offer and made My Little Pony instead of Milky Way? Do you think it would have been as popular is MW IOTL?

A more pertinent question would be "Would adult men who would actually enjoy watching such a hypothetical My Little Pony series be worthy of undying contempt?"

My belief is, unequivocally, yes, yes they would.

(OOC: Sorry, couldn't resist. :p )

More importantly, why would adult men enjoy a show about ponies that has this awful toy lineup? I actually watched a bit of the new MLP and I can tell you it is awfully bad. I don't even think that Lauren Faust, with her abilities to get people of different demographics to watch cartoons, could even do that.

(OOC: Not a brony)

Unlikely, My Little Pony is an existing franchise, Faust will be faced with far tighter restrictions and will have to overcome preconceptions about the franchise

With Milky Way she was able to do things her way and viewers would be willing to judge things on its own merit, without those factors I do not find it likely My Little Pony would gain the same level of following, but I will admit anything's possible

Well, I guess that you could go Darker and Edgier on the whole concept. Like, I dunno, have the horses be living in this kind of weird horrible regime under the control of some bizarre Wicked Witch who forces them to be continually happy and everything. The series can then be about rebellion and control, challenging the idea from fairy tails about happy ever after and utopias, growing up and coming to terms with the world as a much less friendly place than you would-...

No, that still sounds pretty awful.

Yeah, I can't think of any good new angle to give to it.

(OOC: Neither a brony nor a non-brony, as I don't have any feelings one way or the other on the subject and have never even watched the show, but I can't help but be amused that this is a subject that has managed to generate so much controversy :p).

Well the first tv series was pretty dark in terms of evil demon character kidnapping ponies into slavery and turning them into fiery demon monsters to pull his chariot of nightmares...

Then again it also had the Sea Ponies.

It was more actions I suppose. Granted its a good thing no series popped up during the 90s as that would be just plain gritty.

I think the media would probably latch onto the whole thing, but I doubt anyone on AH.com would care one way or another about My Little Pony.

We might care about the quality of what our younger relations are watching.

That's true. However, those kinds of shows aren't really talked about much on this site. I don't think I've ever seen My Little Pony mentioned here until this thread.

That said, I think My Little Pony is a decent enough show for little girls, and someone like Faust would only make it better. So I don't think quality is really an issue here.
