DBWI: Korean war with North Korea surviving

What could make it possible for a communist north to exist on the Korean peninsula after the Korean war?
I recently came back from a tour in The Republic of Korea where I visited Baekdu Mountain (a pretty cool place to relax + the local food was great :D)
While on my way to Pyongyang international airport, I thought about the idea of a different outcome of the Korean war after seeing an old roadside poster, which was left there when the Koreans celebrated the 60th anniversary of the UN victory in the Korean War, when they reached the Yalu river in October 25th.
So...your ideas on how would things turn out if the war wouldn't end as it did?
Could it be the communists wiping out the southerners at Pusan?
Could it be a failed operation Chromite?
Or could it be an actual Chinese (maybe an Soviet one as well) intervention when the UN reached the river? (and if so, what would happen after that?)
And if Communist North Korea survives in your scenario, what would be it's position in the world? Would it eventually fall? Would in encompass the entire peninsula or just north of the 38th (maybe there would be a different border?) Or would it grow in to regional power?

If MacArthur lives, there's a possibility he makes a big mistake and the war ends up a stalemate.
The Chinese almost intervened but the death of Stalin made him concentrate on what was going on in the Kremlin more than Korea. Molotov didn't want anything to do with Korea, though Beria did voice support for intervention in the futile hope of getting hardliner support. Not like anyone would support Beria over Molotov, he's been denounced as the one who (most likely) poisoned Stalin since Molotov came to power and everyone was afraid they would be next. There's evidence Stalin was using the result of the war to begin another purge, which is why Beria did what he did. So maybe the war goes on a little longer than OTL (avoiding Stalin thinking about another purge and scaring Beria), MacArthur lives and the Chinese go in.

The US-USSR Alliance signed on the unflagged supertanker MV Exclaim in the Bering Sea would never have been signed, and the Cold War could have lasted till the 90s. And our somewhat friendly nuclear and conventional arms race wouldn't be so friendly.
