DBWI: Korea Declares War on France

I'm just hearing news coming that the Korean Empire has declared war on the Eighth Republic of France. I suppose the Korean blockade of Saigon caused this but that's because the French bombed Korean Canton last spring. Anyway Germany has assured it's support of Korea...

And the Austrian Empire, the Kaiser's pet, has of course followed its master in stating support for Korea... It'd be amusing if conditions in the Orient led to a general war in Europe, wouldn't it? (And by "amusing" I mean from the perspective of someone in the United States, which will of course remain neutral as is our reputation)

So much for the French Far East. Even their islands are going to be gone, but that depends on the Japanese. They have been aching to go after the Koreans after they were knocked out by the "rebels"/freedom fighters armed to the gills with Chinese/German weapons. Considering the Japanese still have the British alliance, this might get ugly, especially if the French can overcome their distrust of the Brits after the last French-German war where the Entente Cordial turned out to be a farce.

Have the Chinese decided to jump in? They are a basket case right now, but I am sure they would want to reassert their ancient interests in Indo-China.

Support as in: "Hope that the war is over soon" and "that both can come to a peaceful agreement". I've been there when the Kaiser adressed the population of Berlin. Besides, the Franco-German Friendship treaty of 1988 is still in effect. The Japanese are the bigger wildcard here. *mumbles about ignorant Americans*

And the man who is now the President of France, prior to his election, said that the treaty "wasn't worth the paper it was written on" (not the whole quote, but enough to show his point, I think). Of course now that he is in office, he has said differently, but can you really believe him?

I do, and I am living a few dozen miles from the border. Ever since the Alsace problem was solved in the fifties ( Autonomy ring a bell ) and we ceded all claims on anything beyond the 1871 borders.. Besides, the Russians are the real danger to Europe, and the French know that.

Well the Southern Warlord Alliance in China seems rather interested in making a deal with either the Koreans or the French depending who gives them better terms.

The Russians are still recovering from their third civil war a decade ago-St. Petersburg is still a radioactive, unpopulated ruin.

Well the returning of the Czar was an interesting result. I dont really know much about him, but I know he's basicly Kaiser's lap dog. If Germany decides to send forces to help Korea maybe Russia could recapture the Kamchatka Peninsula from Japan?

Why do people have this fixation on German involvment? We have enough to do stop the Genocide in South Africa and with the rebels in Togoland!

OOC: See me as a somewhat nationalist but still rational poster.

What is the PoD of this? I mean, I thought in 1900 Korea was at best a puppet of China or Japan; shortly after Japan annexed the place.

Eighth French Republic?

Huh?

Russia has been warming up to Japan lately... (though Kamchatka is still a pretty big sticking point) the current Czar, Nicholas III, is widely believed to be trying to get a foreign policy more independent of Berlin.

OOC: My guess is that the POD is pre-1900, but since the discussion is post-1900 GMB put it here- which probably isn't exactly correct and if the POD is that early then it should be in the other forum, but it's not a huge issue.

The rebels in Togoland are not much of a threat anymore after the counterterrorist "surge" operations a few years ago and the genocide in South Africa is about to end anyway due to arrival of Italian and British peacekeepers last year.

True, but if we were to be dragged into a general War in Europe against if not friends than at least buissiness partners and mutual allies from the War against Russia, we'd hang the Kaiser out to dry. We copied the British system for a reason after we retook Berlin from Ivan.

Now two months has passed and the German-Korean alliance has been successful so far. French Indochina is occupied by Korea while Paris has been nuked by the Germans for the second time in history.
