DBWI: King George III doesn't die after reading the Declaration of Independence?

OOC: Ontario won't be called Ontario, nor will it be a state. It will be a territory, either part of Ohio or an individual territory perhaps called Huronia. Ontario is a recent name arising from Confederation in 1867.
OOC: ...And Quebec would still be identified as "Canada".

Washington was always bound to be President, like in TTL, but with a longer drawn out war, would Benjamin Franklin live long enough to be the First President, with George Washington being the Second.

Would Hamilton still have been the third president, or would Jefferson have gotten the nod instead?

?? Who??

Would Hamilton still have been the third president, or would Jefferson have gotten the nod instead?

After an intensive WorldConNext search, I found the people you might be talking about.

If you refer to Alex Hamilton, aka "The West Indian Bastard", his service as captain in Washington's artillery corps probably wouldn't be enough. Besides, the Americans weren't ready for a biracial leader with slavery still in force in the Southron States. That, on top of his involvement in the Bank of the US scandal.

The Jefferson I presume you mean, the fellow who penned the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence? It's hard tor un for President from a debtor's prison, you know.

WorldConNext? Wow. I'm amazed that particular Internet search engine is still around, even after 22 years(I personally prefer BuenaVista, though, as it's ).

But where did you hear that A. Hamilton was biracial? Or that Jefferson was in debtor's prison? I mean, sure, the guy was in debt after freeing his slaves in 1792 but his year long absence from politics in 1798-99 was because of his living in France as that country's American ambassador, and not because of any current legal troubles.

OOC: I've never once been able to find any information even claiming a biracial origin for Mr. Hamilton. Also, WorldConNext? Might make a good name for a search engine, but for the *Internet as a whole, I'd rather just stick with the OTL term, since it's simpler(and more plausible to boot!). Something like *GlobeNet might work well as an alternative, though, if we absolutely must use significant butterflies in that particular regard.

OOC: I was including at as the sort of smear which might be leveled against him. (My post channeling a right-wing bigot of the TL.) Unfounded attacks being common enough in OTL...

That was right about the time France sold the Louisiana territories, right? If I remember correctly, the French government needed the money in order to fund replacements for the naval vessels and army cannons they lost in their wars with Britain.

I believe so, yes. Also, most of Louisiana wasn't all that profitable, anyway.....so it was a win-win for everybody. ;)

No. Ben was too old and sickly. He'd been suffering from severe gout and kidney stones for many years, as early as in his service in London as a Colonial agent.

Apropos of London, that brings to mind the question of how much of a factor King George III's untimely death was in the St. Paul's Cathedral riots of 1777.
