DBWI Kazars not conqured by Bzyantium

875 AD

The battle of Sarkel was over, the Kazar's had fought well but with the last of their forces defeated they surrendered and were conquered by the byzantine empire, this conquest turned the black sea into a Greek lake. This fact would continue to be true to the modern era, with Greece, antolia, and former Kazar territories reinforcing each other through numerous crisis's.

But what if this didn't happen what if the Bzyantines didn't conquer the Kazars?

The Khazars continue their devastating raids into the Byzantine Caucasus. After all, Ioannis the “Khazar-Slayer,” the Emperor that launched the invasion that wiped out the Khaganate, was directly spurred into action by the 867 raid that burned central Georgia to the ground and killed thousands.

As for the effects, I guess it’s possible that the Rus’ aren’t quite so heavily affiliated with the Byzantines ITTL? They probably don’t use Greek as their prestige language which heavily influenced modern Russian, for instance.

How possible is a westernised Russia?

Judaism would not decline in Eastern Europe. Iberia is like a second Kingdom Israel with two third of the Jews in the world living there...

The Romans would be overrun before reaching the first millenia. The Khazars already were starting to unite the tribes. But the defeat prevented any kind of Khazar rule.

No massive Turkic migration to Persia or Middle East in General. No Christian Turkic Tribes in Anatolia or anywhere around the Black Sea
