I think that you're being too pessimistic about Germany's chances here. If it wasn't for the collapse of the German home front as a result of the civil war which broke out after the July 20th coup, Germany might have had a chance to bleed the Allies dry. The Soviets were already bled white and I'm not sure that they would have had it in them to engage in another year of fighting. Meanwhile, the casualty-averse British and Americans might hesitate to finish off the Nazi German regime once it will become clear that they and not the Soviets will have to do most of the remaining bleeding.Germany was already screwed by that point, if Hitler continued the war, I think the Soviets could've overrun most of Germany before the Allies could even breach the Rhine and Poland wouldn't become the Soviet's limit it reached westward. It's also possibly due to a longer war Germany could've been partitioned into multiple states due to more bloodshed and destruction. Also Germany wouldn't be a military dictatorship run by elements of the Wehrmacht like it was until its liberalization reforms in the 1980s.
Hitler? He either would've fled Germany, commit suicide (either in captivity or before he's captured) or he's tried and executed, either way he dies in every case if he stays in Germany. Although its possible that another coup could've occurred and Hitler could've been handed over to the Allies by opportunistic individuals in his inner circle.
If you want another interpretation you should read Comrade Shuiski's "Der Untergang: What If Hitler survived the July 20th Plot" its pretty dystopic and horrifying once it reaches 1945 as Nazi Germany becomes ever more fanatic with Hitler increasingly losing his mind.
Given just how much the Soviets hate the Germans, I can't imagine them wanting to leave the Germans alone.I think that you're being too pessimistic about Germany's chances here. Very true. That said, though, the extremely massive casualties that the Soviet Union is going to endure in the final stretch of the war with Nazi Germany is going to make them completely unwilling to enter the war against Japan afterwards.Given just how much the Soviets hate the Germans, I can't imagine them wanting to leave the Germans alone.
