DBWI: Jonathan Corbett doesn't become a US Senator

OOC: If you aren't interested/ never seen Spaghetti Westerns, especially The Big Gundown, it might be a good idea to give this a skip.

After a long career as a Texas bounty hunter, Jonathan Corbett managed to become a US Senator. Despite being a Democrat, Corbett had a role very similar to that of Henry W. Grady in Georgia, doing much to promote the industries of the "New South", particularly railroads.

Late in life, Corbett published his memoirs (a good read by the way, and surprisingly humble), where he detailed the hunt for "Cuchillo" Sanchez, a Mexican outlaw wrongfully accused of the rape and murder of a little girl. Corbett stated he killed the real criminal, Chester "Chet" Miller and a Baron Von Schulenberg in a standoff a few miles south of the US-Mexican border. Miller's father-in-law, the famous Texas railroad baron Brockston would also die at some point during the hunt for Sanchez (there has been much speculation that Corbett himself shot and killed Brockston).

I understand this may be a somewhat obscure POD, but what would be the effects on Texas history be if had Corbett died as well in the hunt?

I admit to knowing NOTHING about Corbett.
But in the late 19th century there were a LOT of people all over the South following in
Grady's footsteps & doing all they could to
promote industrialization there. I could be
wrong here- if I am feel free to tell me!- but
I just really doubt the absence of one among
many would, IOTL, have made much of a
difference.

OOC: Unfortunately UCB79, Corbett is a fictional character portrayed by Lee Van Cleef in Sergio Sollima's The Big Gundown.
