1942 Febuary 3rd.
Japan sent a force of 10 thousand men to invade australia.
The plan was to invade the north east and move on foot to conquer the australian capital. Due to some rather epic inteligence failures the japanese were able to successfully get to the australian coastline unmolested. The Leader of the Japanese forces then burned his ships determined to either die or come home a victor.
Due to another bit of luck the Australian army wasn't there on the beach head, this is where the luck of the Japanese forces ended. Their comanding officer belived that through elan and living off the land his troops could easily conquer Australia.
The Japanese had maps but they didn't understand the terrain, didn't get the right outfits, and were not prepared for the terrain, fauna, or the heat of the outback. To the Japanese's credit they were able to skillfully advoid being caught by the australian milatary, but this didn't prevent them from dying from thirst, hunger, toxic water, disease, and the australian wildlife.
When the Japanese force successfully got to the capital the force of 10 thousand men had been reduced to less then 200, the survivors were emaciated and near deaths door, and had to be rescued by Australian police. The australia beat the invading army with out a single shot being fired.
But what if the Japanese had prepared for the invasion if they had captured the capital, how would this have changed world war two. Failing that what would our world look like if the Japanese had decided against invading Australia?
How would australian culture change?
