DBWI: Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor

As we all know, in our timeline, the Japanese had planned to attack Pearl Harbor, but they made the decision to attack San Francisco instead.

The Battle of San Francisco was intense. The Japanese actually managed to drive inland as far as Sacramento before they were turned back.

The attack on the US West Coast ended up ruining the Japanese war effort, and they fell to the US in 1943, allowing the Americans to focus entirely on Germany. The war in Europe ended on April 2, 1945, when the B-29 bomber Enola Gay dropped a Little Boy atomic bomb on Berlin, killing Adolf Hitler.

Now, how would the war have gone had the Japanese chosen to attack Pearl Harbor instead?

OOC:

Leaving aside the question as to why the Japanese would do this, did their navy have the range to attack San Francisco?

And this is supposed to be an amphibious invasion, followed by a drive over a hundred miles inland across the Bay, right?

Attacking Pearl Harbour would look like a stroke of genius compared to invading San Francisco. That must go down as one of the dumbest military ideas in history.

The war would have gone a lot worse than OTL. We are quite lucky that two out of the three Axis powers (Japan and Italy) had incompetent military leadership which greatly assisted the Allies.

Well considering that Japan stupidly allowed the nationalists in China to get there act together and keep a lid on the Communists I say that a Japan that's atturally smart could led to a situation similar to Germany Otl with china being split between communists and nationalists.

They have the range to get there. Getting back however would be a problem. But then again thier imperial Japan they probably didn't think that far ahead.
