How?

They were allied with the UK, U.S., AND USSR.

They came out smelling like a rose. They got a share of the Reich's tech, some help with their own tech, and all it cost them was a few destroyers.

BTW: You can't use OOC in a DBWI.

That is for roleplaying and games.

The only way they could be on the Losing side is if they...I don't know declared war on the Allies or some such

Which is really crazy because they made a fortune building Freighters, escorts ships for the British as well as helping hunt down at least 4 raiders in the Indian Ocean (and that was before official becoming a member of the allies) and could never hope to defeat the US let alone the combined Navies of Britain, USA, France and the Dutch had they changed sides!!!

Mind you had they done so I wonder if they would have built those monster battleships whose designs surfaced a few years back (65,000 Tons!!!! )

I think that they would have been unsinkable

The only way I see is if the Japanese joined the axis.the only way I see that happening is if they get bogged down in China instead of conquering it very quickly.the need for resources will push them into conflict with the Europeans and the U.S.

Yeah, but what about out-of-character stuff? When did that become forbidden?

Yeah that kinda makes it hard to discuss DBWI's especially when they're really bad like SUCCESSFUL SEALION or something like that as it gets confusing trying to figure out who's acting out the DBWI and who's trying to argue about the scenario itself.

If there's gonna be more and more restrictions placed on DBWI's, we may as well just ban them from Before and After 1900 and say that they all belong in Shared Worlds. Plus, the people who vociferously hate them will be happier that way.

There IS no OOC stuff in a real DBWI.

The enire point is to take a REAL WORLD event and ask want would have happened if it had happened in a ATL (What if: Apollo 11 had made the 1st successful moon landing).

The second ou have to use OOC then it is getting into Role Playing.

DBWI are, without doubt, the most difficult thing to make work on the Board. Every single poster alters the scenario (especially the first non OP).

If you have people arguing the scenario, than it isn't a well designed DBWI. As I mentioned, they are nearly impossible to really construct well. I would say that 90%+/- of the ones posted are actually meant to be role plays. Just the reaction to the statement about OOC sort of illustrates that.

DBWI are also really, really easy to derail. We used to have a (long since Banned) member who would bring up legalization of Weed in every DBWI. Since you need to fold that into the T/L it would get a bit daft.

CalBear just an FYI note but as an RPGer and AH/Debate/BullSession/etc participant while OOC (Out of Character) IS an official RPG acronym "I" first learned it in Debate where it was supposed to indicate "Out Of Context" in a discussion. I assumed that's what it meant here until someone actually brought up the RPG reference.

They Conqured the traditionally Manchu part of china, not the Han core, and they were very lucky there was a multiparty civil war distracting the core of china during the invasion.

Maybe if the more insane members of the Japanese military took over and decided to go for the rest of China? Crazy , I know but it is the best I can come up with.

I'd kinda have to disagree with this. Just because someone uses the term OOC doesn't mean they're roleplaying. When I use it in a DBWI it's so I can discuss the scenario while talking in the OTL so it doesn't interfere with the ATL discussion. Also if you're going to do this its at the point DBWI's should just be moved to the roleplaying section at this point.
