DBWI Jane Fonda wasn't a spy

But this time, president trump has tweeted that

I don't like Trump, but he's right about that one.

It doesn't help that a lot of people are still ambivilent about the war to this day.

Yeah we eventally won, but we lost so many people, spent so much money, and so many people died that a lot of people honestly do not feel it was worth it. Sure Vietnam eventally became an Asian tiger and a functional democracy but a lot of people wonder if it was worth all the blood and treasure.

You only need to look at the prosperous streets of Vietnam to have an answer to that. If you're still not sure, look at the streets of any Communist nation and you'll have your answer for certain.

It wasn't easy, it wasn't cheap and it wasn't free, but it was all worth it.

It really is.

It all ended well but america did not leave that war feeling like a winner.

It took a generation for the american psyche to recover from vietnam, we went into that war with vim and vigor and left it exausted tired and depressed. We won but it was at great cost and it humbled us as a country.

Speaking of which I just saw the movie about Fonda's last mission, that flick called 5 minutes to midnight.

I thought it was pretty good but it was also clear oscar bait your opinions?

So it looks like "Fonda" has been nominated for best picture and best actress your opinions guys?

You guys are forgetting the best film about it - John Landis' Jane's Got a Bomb starring Rita Rudner. 90's screwball comedy at it's best.

...

But what if Jane Fonda wasn't a spy, what if she hadn't been the ardent patriot she had been in OTL or willing to give her life for her country. What would our world look like today?

I wonder if her rep. as a anti war activist & unpopularity with the vets & war hawks would kill her cinema career? Would she be stuck living off residuals from Barbarella & occasional lecture stipends, or giving acting lessons. Some folks claim her rep in the 1970s hurt her brothers career. I have my own thoughts on that, but what do others think?

Politics as a leftist might be another route for her, tho that was a tough row to hoe in the 1970s & 80s.

Extolling that film is in pretty questionble taste, given the deaths that occured during the filming of the helicopter scene.

The only bright spot was Landis being convicted in court, thus proving that the world we live in isn't THAT screwed up.

He should have followed proper safety procedures, like the pilot warned him but he had to get that shot.
