Just what the title says of course. For those of you who don't know or simply aren't sports fans the Temple Cup is the trophy given to whichever team wins professional baseball's playoffs and final championship series they're considered the world champions of the sport upon winning it. The cup made it's first appearance in 1894 and was donated by Lumber Baron, William Chase Temple owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates and was intended as a replacement for the missing Dauvray Cup the previous championship trophy. Originally contested by just the National League (First winners were the New York Giants) between the years 1894 and 1897. It seemed to be forgotten altogether until 1905 when the Presidents of the American and National Leagues decided to heavily market the that years World Series to get fans back after the events cancellation in 1904. Part of that was the return of prized championship trophy from a previous era. Ever since the Cup has become more and more a legendary part of the game. Each winning team getting it's name etched into it for posterity. As Baseball became truly an international sport the Temple Cup became more and more coveted being seen and displayed all over the globe. Teams and Leagues have folded and disappeared but the trophy remains.

What's your thoughts? Can you think of a more prestigious trophy? Any favorite memories or moment of the Temple Cup? What trophies could have been more coveted or as well known with a little push?
