The most famous defectors to the East are probably the Beatles. The Fab Fours worldwide success in the early 60s was originally used as propaganda by the British government about how great life under communism in the FSRB was. When the Fab Four defected to the East in 1965 it was obviously a shock for the British government. It was soon after this that the Paul is Dead myth began. The rumour goes like this: That Paul Mccartney died while being interogated by the State Security Buteau and replaced by one of their agents who has worked as a mole in the East ever since. The rest of the band knew Paul had been killed but were forced to keep quiet about it in return for guarantees for their families' safety. The Fab Four have, however dropped clues about it in their subsequent albums.
