Wait for the poll. Here are the numbers as of dissolution, Sept. 1, 1989.

Congress: 413 seats
TDP: 35 seats

Incumbent Prime Minister: Rajiv Gandhi (INC)

After the "Big Bang" of 1985 and the mass privatization, the economy is beginning to take off. On the downside, polls are predicting major losses due to AgriScam and numerous instances of low-level corruption. Congress is predicted to win a narrow majority in the LS with no more than 300 of 515 seats.

Update: PM Gandhi has announced a Cabinet revamp if he wins re-election. More representation from the right and centre, and the left will be marginalized. What's interesting is that the Muslim papers are reportedly endorsing Congress. Putting a Muslim Kashmiri in Justice might've had something to do with this. They like how the PM defused the 1985 personal law crisis.
