DBWI: Independent Canada?

As we all know, Canada was once the name of the northern 11 states of the Union. Is it possible for them to have become their own country? How would that have affected relations between the United States and its neighbors, Columbia and Russia? And where would the USA be without exclusive rights to the Northwest passage? We also know that it would have been impossible to see an independent Canada much past the turn of the century, not after the Newfoundland War united the people of the USA against their foreign enemies.

Living In the state of Grant (ooc:eek:ntario), I can't imagine not being an American. I really don't know how Canada could become it's own country.

The CIA (ooc:Canadian Independance Alliance) have been using their terror tactics for over a century and their efforts have never gone beyond the Civil War.

Maybe if some drunk scots man imigrates to Canada and gets all the provinces to join something. A confederation? I think thats about the only way you'd get an independant Canada.

All I can think of is a weaker US post Revolutionary War. Either that or maybe have more states like Virginia break off during the Southern Rebellion and somehow cripple the US for the next 70 years.

I really don’t see it happening though. American and British interests clashed so frequently, especially during the 19th century that I have a hard time believing that they would have never gone to war. And the Northern US…I mean Canada would fall every time.

As for our borders, without Canada maybe the US wouldn’t have pressed so hard for Russia to sell us the eastern part of Siberia, could have saved us a lot of trouble too during the World Wars but that’s neither here nor there. I don’t think it would have affected our border with Columbia much, we had to attack British Central America…all their Caribbean possessions during the Newfoundland War.
