DBWI:Ike Runs For A Second Term in 1956?

Eisenhower was pretty popular during his time in office as President, and said later in his life that, had his health been better at the time, he would have run for a second term as President. As we know, his health began to go downwards, and he thought it best not to run, leaving Nixon to run and win in his place.

So, my question is, what happens if Ikes health was better, and he runs and wins a second term? Would his second term be different than Nixon's first?

I think Nixon would still be elected to fallow him in 1960. He probably serves two-terms as in OTL, but I'm not sure who would fallow him. After 16 years of having a Republican in the White House, Americans would probably want a change and vote for a Democrat. Maybe one of the Kennedy brothers?

Probably John F. Kennedy would have died by 1968 even without the car accident, he did have Addison's. Still I'm not sure if Nixon would have got to terms. As 1964 and 1988 showed America generally doesn't let the same party keep the White House for more than 12 years. Nixon was a good President but I think after 16 years of Republican rule the people would feel like a change.

Might totally change Cuba. Nixon rejected Castro in '59 sending him right into Khrushchev's arms. Might Ike have been more open and not so "Commiephobic"? Think of the problems that li'l episode would have prevented!

What about Robert? He was well known at the time. Teddy didn't really get nation wide attention until the 70's (and not always for the best reasons).

I agree that Robert had a chance but I think as in OTL the Dem's will want a hawk like Scoop Jackson after the Cuba fiasco.
While in hindsight trading the missiles in Turkey and Italy for the Soviet ones in Cuba probably saved us from a nuclear war it did not go down well with the American people at the time.
If Eisenhower alienates Castro, which I think he will, then Khruschev is still going to send the missiles and you are still going to have a Cuba Crisis. As Nixon would probably succeed Eisenhower you are going to get the same result.

Addison's is fatal long-term: False, it was controlled by medications, rather like diabetes. There is no cure, and was likely triggered by excessive use of steroids to correct other illnesses in his youth.
