DBWI: if Wu Sangui defected to Qing..

After Ming fell in 1644, Wu Sangui declared for Li Zicheng and defeated qing, this helped to secure shun dynasty's rule over china. Shun dynasty lasted until 2002.
If Wu Samgui defected to Qing, would shun dynasty have been strangled at the cradle?

Yes, I'm sure that if Wu Sangui had joined the Qing that the Shun would have probably been stillborn, the question is if the Qing are able to take advantage of this to take over China or could the "Southern Ming" have regrouped and taken over China.

So, even if the Shun defeated Wu Sangui and the Manchu, how would the Shun Dynasty had developed, then? I'd imagine that Li Yan would have been executed as a few Shun officials plotted to execute him before Wu Sangui put a stop to their plans.

It Would end up like Qin dynasty.

By the Way, How is Republic of china holding up? it was established in 2002.
It's very shaky right now with a strong monarchist movement and the current RoC President has called for a referendum to be held soon with the question of whether to restore the monarchy (which heavily truncated powers, of course) or keep the republic.

What do you think the referendum will result in?

I still don't see the monarchy lasting until 2002, not with all of the external powers that occupied or took parts, or influenced china's politics iOTL, specifically from the 1860's (first opium war) to the 1980's (mao era ends and deng xiaoping stabilizes china under mixed market rule).
