It's pretty crazy how Germany held it together in the 20's and 30's. They had quite a few odd political parties, but they seemed to hold themselves together. I'm sitting here in Vienna, Germany (was just in Preßburg, up from Ödenburg. Heading into Reichenberg, then Berlin while on vacation), just soaking up the Christmas Markets, having a nice cup of Glühwein, remarking how the country held together from a tumultuous start.
My girlfriend's parents picked up some wine from Straßburg on their way over to meet up with us here. They already visited Marburg, Styria, after visiting Venice, then went to the French border with Alsace-Lorraine, then back over here.
For those who've been here, what's your favorite memory of Germany? The lakes of East Prussia? The windmills in Posen? Breslau's Olympic Stadium from 1992? Euro-Disney (I bet France wishes they had taken the chance with those extra 22 million visitors touring the country every year)? Or their election of the first female President of the republic (and an attractive one at that) in 2010?
What'd you think of Germany's reaction to Polish reunification in '91?
Hard to believe the ally in WW2 was on the opposite side in WW1.
