DBWI: Hitler not assassinated in 1938?

We all know that, on the 9th of October 1938, Maurice Bavaud fatally shoot Hitler as he paraded through the streets of Munich during the anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch. This led to Hess taking over as Führer, with all his mental issues that we know of today, which led to the invasion of Poland and led to Germany's defeat in WW2.

My question to you is, what if Hitler wasn't killed? What would happen if Hitler had lived on as the Führer? He did promise no more territorial claims in Europe, and his previous deals with the West, such as the Anglo-German Naval Agreement, had shown him to be trustworthy enough to hold that promise. Could the war and the extermination of the Jews be prevented this way?

What do you think?

I think so, like you said he didn't break his promise in the Anglo-German naval agreement. Hess's fuhership lasted only three weeks before Goering took over and he was assassinated two years later and Himmler took over. There is a lot of evidence that Himmler was behind Goering's assassination which I can well believe. OOC: Hess was a near nonentity and Goehring was considered the most likely to take over after Hitler's death. He was the sanest of the Nazis and the least likely to order a holocaust so I had Himmler take over from him as he may well have been even worse then Hitler.
