DBWI: Haast's Eagles never introduced to the Americas?

As we all know when the first explorers from the United States of America discovered the New Caroline Islands* and Antipodia**, they where fasinated with the fact that the Caroline Natives* had domesticated the Elephant Birds*** and Haast's Eagles (named of course after the first White Man to ride one)**** But when they introduced them to Antipodia**, Hawaii, and North America, the two bird species ran amok. Say what you will about the economic and military impact of "mounted flight" that the Haast provided before the invention of planes and airships, or how much food an Elephant bird egg produces, the environmental impact, of the Haast especially, with it's taste for megafuana, was immense. What if they had had more forsight and didn't introduce them into new environments that weren't ready?

*In TTL Australia and New Zealand where discovered and settled by Americans instead of British. "New Caroline Islands" are so called because the North Island is called "New North Carolina" and the south island is called "New South Carolina".
** Antipodia=Australia. Also settled by the US.
***Elephant birds, or Moa native to New Zealand, extinct in OTL
****Haast's eagle, both here and in OTL a name of European origin. In OTL named after the man who discovered their bones, in TTL named after a salior on the first american ship in New Zealand.

OOC: do most people in this ATL suffer from dwarfism? Because I have yet to see it stated anywhere that Haast's Eagles would be able to carry a grown person.

OOC: There is evidence that a Haast had very muscular wings and could carry a Moa.

Well, the American culinary scene would be drastically different - Antipodian BBQ is my personal favorite, having grilled Wallaby, conch friters with elephant bird eggs is as hearty a meal as you can find.

I love a new caroline omelet myself. Elephant bird and Haast eggs, Elephant bird meat, and native cabage. Of course it varys greatly between the islands, what with the north having been under slavery and the south not, as such there's a lot more african and east indies influence in the New North Carolina recipe then in the New South Carolina recipe, whihc is much closer to the original native version. Kind of the same as how Antipodian BBQ differs between the formerly slave holding west, and the traditionally free soil east.

Nothing beats good wallaby - cooked well, its so tender the juice literally dribbles down your chin - so tasty :D

And the beer! The beer - to die for.

As for non-food PODs... maybe the USA gets a slower start on transcontintal travel/trade/communication. Granted, it would still happen having needed to connect the contenental 54, but having the New Carolines and Antipodia drove the need home earlier and faster, thus heavy use of Haast's Eagle. So maybe less speady adoption of such technologies?

Moa with Haast eagle talon damage to their pelvis was from being smashed into the ground by a diving Haast eagle rather than picked up by one. Haast eagle had the wingspan of something like a golden eagle but matched to a big body like a Harpy eagle.

Which variety though? The East was settled by northerners and run away slaves, while the west was settled by white Southerners, and slaves and each brought their ways of cooking with them. Personally, I perfer the western method of cooking myself, I've seen what those people can do with a Diprotodon, a Camel, or even a a Megalania, though actually hunting those big lizards is suicide. Ever had chicken fried Camel? Amazing!

OOC - Bit ASB, unless there is time travel involved as both these species should be well extinct (1400 AD ish?) by the time the US is settled by Britain, let alone independent and off adventuring in the South Pacific

That being said, the world will soon fear the dwarf airborne soldiers of these United States!

Without the Haast Eagle, Teratorns would still be dominant in North America like they are in South America (where the natives have been riding them for centuries) Haasts may be smaller than Teratorns, but they seem to be much more aggressive.
