[DBWI] GW Bush runs for goverrnor of Texas

It's understandable that GW Bush decided in 1993 not to run for governor of Texas. Ann Richards was still doing well in the polls; and Poppy and Barb were against the idea of his running (they wanted to concentrate their support on Jeb's campaign in Florida rather than have to worry about a long-shot race in Texas). GW Bush's wife Laura was especially vehemently opposed to the idea.

But, as we all know, it turned out that Richards was vulnerable in the Republican year of 1994. So if GW Bush had decided to run, is it possible that he would have become governor of Texas and even perhaps ultimately president of the United States the way Robert Mosbacher, Jr. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Mosbacher,_Jr. did in OTL?

George W. Bush, the Dr. Pepper spokesperson? If he's anything like his dimwitted persona, I can't see him really going far like his pa, or even Brother.

Sons of twentieth century Presidents have nearly all stayed away from electoral politics. As it happens, one of the two exceptions I can think of (the other one is James Roosevelt) happens to be "Jeb" Bush. But the younger Bush was generally regarded as much smarter than George W, who, though he turned his life around, was regarded as something of a f----up.

Yeah, playing a Governor (and later President) for a soft drink commercial isn't exactly the same as being either.

Assuming Bush Jr. goes into Politics, given his background at Yale and Harvard and in the Texan Air Force, and his fathers status, as well as his experience on the '92 campaign, he could probably get enough clout to make a break for Governorship. Would more than likely run on a campaign of reform, be in in civil justice, education, welfare, or all three.

I wonder what that would have meant for President Rumsfeld? He was somewhat of a dark horse in 2000, but when he did that appearance on Rush Limbaugh's show in July, 1999, his campaign took off. He won Iowa and New Hampshire, and his performance during the 2000 debates - where he just shredded Al Gore. No surprise that 2000 was a landslide win for him. He won by a huge margin in 2004, too.
