So with the election of Ed Miliband yesterday I'd like to ask who in your opinion was the best Labour Prime Minister?

Definitely Gordon Brown.

He kept the British Economy glowing for 10 decades of his Premiership.

The tragic circumstances of his death will also mean that he is revered for at least decades to come...

I think he'll allways be hated by Labour because he didn't de-regulate the city meaning that there was no extra economic growth in the UK to fund their social spending. I personaly think it should be more de-regulated than it is now, but like a dog keep them under control and allow them some room to run around.

OOC: I'm an economist in this DBWI

Clement Atlee is the best. No competition! Gordon Brown should not be in that list! His term has been a complete failure. The decade of 'prosperity' we experienced was merely a bubble of consumerism, inflated by the public who were allowed and encouraged to borrow beyond their means. Also, what kind of Chancellor in a right state-of-mind sells off a county's gold reserves when the price of gold is low?!
Having Brown in that list is almost like a sick joke!

Why not mention Tony Benn. The man who not only faced off, but brought down the Soviet Union with an isolated Britain in the Tallinn crisis. Not only that, he invested heavily in British Rail so that we now have the world class rail service we have today! I mean to say, £5 for a fare anywhere? Can that really be beaten?

OOC: I bet that Labour counts itself lucky to have one prime minister serve for 10 decades. :p

David Owen, easily. The way he was able to take the best of Thatcher's ideas and put a human face on them was very impressive.

He lost to the trade unions in the end of course, and Hezza made the running with the best of Owen's and finally beat Scargill. But Owen remains a vital link in the chain of building modern Britain.

Tony Benn is on there and was my choice.

I mean he led the way for first class public transport and pretty much saved East Greece from Soviet occupation.
