DBWI: Germany unified?

Is it possible for Germany to unify, like China, Spain, Italy, Russia, Britain, and the Maghreb?

Or is the nature of Germany to fragment? It was unified in the early Holy Roman Empire, but even that was feudal and not very centralized.

Still, geographically it seems like it might be easy to keep together once united.

Well, it almost DID happen IOTL, in the 1870s.....but then the Franco-Prussian War happened; the Prussians got their asses kicked real hard and in fact, they felt so betrayed by their fellow Germans, that when the next pan-German conference came around in 1877, Wilhelm I basically said, "Forget it." to the rest of the German states. The western German states and Bavaria still did consolidate, btw, just a year later, just without Prussia.

I do wonder how this would affect the world wars, btw: In WWI we here in America were allied with Austria and Prussia, and West Germany(Aka, the Confederated Republic of Germany) was forced abide by the Manchester Treaty after they lost.....although it was Austria-Hungary and Prussia that went fascist in the '30s, and not Germany(remember the Crash of 1930?). West Germany later became a member of the Marxist European People's Union right after WWII.....and on the opposing side of the Cold War(we were allied with the Russian Empire and her allies, as well as Turkey, Britain, Spain, and Greece).

Is it possible, perhaps, that Prussian influence might have put a damper on the socialist influence that was slowly spreading thru West Germany, starting in the 1880s? Prussia had a fair number of Communists & other socialists as well but with far lesser influence, partly thanks to the devoted support of the Emperor on the part of many non-Communist Prussians.
