DBWI Germans try to implement the Schliefflin Plan

For people for whom this reference is obscure, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the German General Staff for awhile adopted a crazy idea of invading Belgium with half the German army and trying to encircle the French army, in the event of a war between the Central Powers and France/ Russia. Apparently there was no provision to send any units to face the Russians at all. This was sensibly abandoned before the war broke out in light of the Russian military buildup.

So what would have happened if they had actually tried this? Possible PODs would be a different general at the head of the General Staff, or an earlier outbreak of the war, before the plans could be revised.
