DBWI: George W Bush not assassinated during the 9/11

George W Bush, 43rd President of USA, was often cited as one of the most tragic figures in the history of US Presidents.

It was said that, even before his fateful visit to Emma E Booker elementary school, President Bush was already shadowed by John Walker Lindh, an American Muslim convert and member of the Al-Qaeda. Soon after the attack on Twin Tower started, but before the Secret Services could secure the perimeter around the President, John Walker Lindh charged the class where The President is being present and detonated his suicide bomb vest, killing the President, three Secret Service agents, and nine second-grade children in the explosion.

Of course, we all know the utter clusterfuck that happened afterward, but... What if either the Al-Qaeda did not plan on killing George W Bush, or his assassin, John Walker Lindh, has cold feet and bungled the assassination? What if George W Bush is the one who led America through The War on Terror?

Good freakin grief... this was a complete maddening experience. Cheney took over and he proceeded to start the War On Terror and got the US into several wars in the Middle East and screwed up the US economy by fiddling with rates and doing everything he can to make it look better than it was to justify the war.

Even when Cheney was nearly impeached because of his trespassing on freedoms, it still wasn’t done. The rumors of impeachment and his sharp decline in health from stress made him not run for office and he died in 2007 from a heart attack. Then we had to deal with the Rumsfeld administration from 2004-2010 when he was impeached because of the torture thing among other things and of course he and the Republicans’ mishandling of the Great Recession. Even now, Canada makes jokes that Rumsfeld was so bad he made the Canadian dollar worth more than the US briefly (though that was also due to their Prime Minister, the honorable Jack Layton, who basically worked to keep the US from doing anything too insane).

We only managed to recover thanks to President Bernie Sanders over in 2012-today.

Bush Jr, from what’s I read, relied a lot on Cheney so probably a toned version of what he’d do. Just without the frenzy that comes from a presidential assassination. Bush probably would’ve been better than Cheney regarding the anti-Muslim violence.

Bush probably would’ve been a better effort on Katrina than Rumsfeld did. Not sure on what else. Bush came off as a bit of a dope, but kinda harmless.

Cheney and Rumsfeld were... well, the Middle East is still recovering after what happened though ironically enough, the Arab Spring did help a fair bit of that. The economy has been managing to recovering after what they did.

If there is any consolation to a Cheney or Rumsfeld administration, it's that Bin Laden was killed a few years after 9/11. I wonder how long until Americans will decide to give Republicans another chance, and would they be sane or more batshit crazy. Didn't one of the GOP candidates advocate nuking Iran and Afghanistan during the World On Terror?

For something more calming (somewhat), who do you think will be the best 2020 candidate for the Democrats? Sanders is leaving soon and who knows, we might get someone who will continue his legacy.

Yeah, though more because they were willing to go into Pakistan because they weren’t entirely trusting of them.

As for the Republicans and Democrats, hard to say. Both parties changed dramatically over the last few years to where the only reason they kept the names was out of convenience.

Well, besides calling themselves the New Republicans and New Democrats.

The moderate GOP and no date democrats pretty much took control of the GOP and made it into the New Republicans and Russ Feingold led the charge for the New Democrats though virtually Sanders went and brought in all the new blood. They’re voting for new names, mottos and animal mascots and will be announced in the 2020 run.

And Nina Turner looks like the strongest candidate. She initially declined to be his VP, though that was more because Feingold having the presence st the time. Sanders has endorsed her to be his successor.

As for the New GOP or whatever they will call themselves, no clue though Diane Feinstein has expressed interest along with Joe Biden.

Perhaps very ironically to the reports about W Bush valuing Chaney's advices, there is overwhelming opinion on the Republicans, and even some Democrats, that if he is not assassinated, George W Bush would go on to prove to be the best President.

And yes, the Bush nostalgia, and the fact that Rumsfeld's side once tried successfully discrediting the Bush family during the 2003 Republican Primary is the source of why Jeb Bush managed to shape himself into the likeliest candidate of Republican side in 2020. Heck, it was a weird thing to think about that Jeb Bush picked Hillary Clinton, of all people, as his running mate (but that's partially because Bernie once tried to investigate Clintons with corruption charges, but the motions failed and Clinton camp moved to work with Old Republicans.

Well, that is more nostalgia and whatnot. That's kinda changing even now given his record and the people he's surrounding hismelf with. As for Jeb, he went on a sabbatical after his brother died and seeing what the maniacs his brother surrounded hismelf with in the early 2000s served as a wake-up call.

As for the Clinton thing, well they were Republicans early on and it's not like Sanders was doing it out of popularity points. But yeah, the Bush nostalgia might be strong though I don't think it will be enough to get Jeb elected in 2020. 2024 maybe, but the Dismal Decade as it was called run by Cheney and Rumsfeld is gonna be one of those history book years.

G W Bush was thick as two short planks but at least he wasn't a lunatic like Cheney or in particulate Rumsfled. Christ, they were bonkers.

Do you think G W Bush would have gone in for all of that torture and extraordinary rendition stuff? The yanks were waterboarding people like some tin pot third world dictatorship. The USA. Torturing people. Just think about that? The worlds policeman. Torturing. They basically took the constitution, shat on it and then fed it to people as being in their best interests and those bloody Yanks lapped it up. That unitary executive theory and the people who pushed it have a lot to answer for. What a surprise all the tapes and paperwork about those meetings are "missing"!

NO way that would happen in the UK. Blair, even, backed away after the Bush business because, I think, he felt Cheney was uncontrollable and the political fall out would be toxic. Brown, sensibly imo, turned away completely from Rumsfeld and focused on Europe. Even that chinless, plumy, twonk Cameron ( god what an awful PM HE would have been) could see they were wrong uns. Thank god Brown got close to Europe so we could offer a united front against the lunacy form across the pond.

The special relationship took a hell of a beating in those years! Thankfully it seems to be on the mend and intelligence/military services are starting to work closely together again. There is still work to do with the EU (especially the French and Germans) but hopefully Britain can act as a bridge there. Being in the centre of Europe and shaping the direction of travel has really helped. Also it was very sensible that Blair and mainly Brown got both UK and European forces out of Iraqi and Afghanistan when the level of corruption and violence became apparent. We should be grateful we got off that ride before they started on Iran!

I think that IF Bush had survived the approach would have been similar but less hardcore. I simply cant see someone with the background of Bush trampling over the Constitution like his successors did.
