Look, Japan's politics to the contrary the USA has had a historical friend in the pacific. I recognize that this friend has done horrible things to its own people, but then again so did Stalin and we supported him against the Nazis in a whole different war.
Its an arrangement that lasted until Chairman Vasilliev of the Soviet Union and President Robinson agreed to arms limitations and an integration of the Eastern Bloc and the Soviet Union into NATO and free trade arrangements. It's been a difficult decade with all of the problems, but Vasilliev and his sucessor Merenko have proved to be better friends than the Japanese Empire (or Republic, if you believe Tokyo's side of the arguement).
So, now that the Soviet Union and the former Warsaw pact have joined into NATO, there are some elements in the United States who are looking for someone else to fight, and that's exactly what is happening here. Can we forget that the USA has made deals with worse strongmen?
Also, this whole arrangment might have been caused by Japan's refusal to support an attack against the Jihadists of Central Asia. The Koreans might be suffering, but has that ever mattered? Particularly when the Japanese can claim that they are only doing what the United Kingdom, France and the Russians did 100 years before?
