DBWI: Frantz-Ferdinand dies while visiting Sarajevo

As you know, Frantz-Ferdinand wanted to visit Saajevo before being won by the arguments of his staff because of the prevailing political conditions there.

WI he don't follow their advices, went to Sarajevo and get killed there by a terrorist? Could a war be triggered?

(OOC: There's plenty of threads about how would be A-H if he survived; I wanted to ask if the WWI was unavoidable, in your opinion.)

Ummm, that would be the 'foolish thing in the balkans' that Kanzler bismarck thing would have caused(was a little close, was russia civil war that bring europe into chaos) but again, that would be worse that some polish being systematically shooting, that would be more like those 'punitive expedition' to minor countries that others... Bosnia thing would be even worse for the hasbrugd and they will not have FF to solved it

(For me WW1 is Fifty-Fifty, if not happen because franz, will be either when russia try to destroy the ottomand or will not happen at all)

Austria would use this as an excuse to invade Serbia. They'd been looking for an excuse to do so for several years and this would be an ideal time to do so. In theory, Russia would invade A-H, but with the troubles going on at the time, they would want to risk war with Germany by doing so. So in the short term, Serbia is annexed into A-H and WWI happens as normal. However, Franz Ferdinand was a champion of equality within A-H, something that could be less said about his nephew Karl, who would have taken the throne had he outlived Franz. I imagine the break up of A-H would be earlier and bloodier, possibly sparking war between other factions supporting the rebels.

OOC: F-F said that the Maygars were dynastic traitors and saw the Slavs as Sub Humans and refereed to them as Pigs... real equality.
He was however one totally opposed to war with Russia, in fact he was more interested in Italy and regaining the Lombard/Venice area (however this was most likely just a pipe dream)
