OOC: Our worlds OTL up til 1950 is being presented as a ATL (it´s named Forward my noble jackals) in a world where the events of the magnificent TL ,,decades of darkness,, written by Jared toke place.
Do you guys belive that Forward my noble jackals is a believable timeline ?
OOC: Edit-Everything's been cleared up. Thanks, Karikon.
IC: In short, no. While it was pretty well written, to be honest, there is
no way in hell, that the U.S. could have continued to hold on to Peru, Chile, and Charcas, let alone annex them and Argentina.
In OTL 1950, the U.S.'s hold on the three former countries was already seriously strenuous as it was, and we had already begun to pull out, if perhaps slowly, due to various logistical problems, not to mention the growing number of anti-war protests in the cities, and other major domestic issues(including increasingly violent clashes between the anti-indenture movement and numerous far-rightist groups, such as the Jefferson Davis Society, as the Peculiar Institution began to go thru its final death throes later on).
In fact, we were extraordinarily lucky to have been able to hold on until 1955 as it is. We could have been booted out much earlier, and with far higher casualties, too. Not to mention what could have happened if President Long had decided to invade Argentina, and especially if our arch-rival the Russians had gotten involved.
For those of you who haven't read it, btw, here's the fan map(OOC: B_Munro's interpretation of what the DoD 'verse might look like in 2011):
OOC: BTW, Karikon, no offense meant, btw. No hard feelings, I trust?
