[DBWI]: Former First Lady Doris Day Is Dead

"In 1951’s “Storm Warning,” Day appeared with Ronald Reagan. Day dated the future president and said he was the only man she knew who loved to dance..."

Day played an important role in pushing Reagan to the right. Without his marriage to Day, Reagan might've remained a Democrat. In fact he might never have become President at all, given the closeness of both his nomination and election in 1976. He only just barely defeated President Ford for the nomination, and had Ohio and Mississippi flipped to Carter then Reagan would've lost the general election. Many have attributed Reagan's unexpected success to his marriage to Day, whose star power was a major asset to Reagan's career.

Reagan was involved in the pursuit of left-wing actors — so I'm not sure.

But if I honestly do not want to remember about this side of her biography - she was a wonderful singer and actress! Can you believe that Que Sera Sera was taught in English at a Russian school? But I studied in it.

Doris was a moderating influence on Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan said about Doris "she kept me from getting into trouble and doing stupid things"

Ronald Reagan did thank his wife for talking him out of adopting more radical economic policies that would have made the 1980 financial crisis worse.

And he was right to do so. The 1980 recession was bad, but it could've been worse.

After Reagan left office in 1981, Day focused her efforts on charity and advocacy. Had Day never married Reagan, the progress she made on animal rights would probably have not happened.
