DBWI Europeans colonize Southern Africa

The area around the Cape of Good Hope is one place in sub-Saharan Africa that is suitable for Europeans to colonize. It has a Mediterranean climate, and long into the Age of Discovery you didn't even have the Bantu there (at least south of the Great Fish River), just the less advanced and less populous Khoisan peoples. And it was on a strategic point on the route to India. Why you didn't have large scale European settlement has always been a mystery to me.

What would a populous European colony in that region have looked like?

Why hasn't it been colonized by the Europeans?Because it's been colonized by the Chinese. If it wasn't colonized by the Chinese first ,there's no chance the Europeans wouldn't take over such a strategic location.
