DBWI Elian Gonzalez sent back to Cuba

We all remember the case of MLS star Elian Gonzalez entering the United States in 1999. Fortunately for Easy G, as his fans call him, he stayed in the US with his uncles, where he caught on in a select soccer league in Florida and is now lighting it up for the Vancouver Whitecaps. He's one of the best draws in MLS, and his performance in the 2014 World Cup was the talk of the tournament right up until Germany eliminated the Americans in the semis.

What if he had gone back to Cuba? Would he have taken up soccer? Another sport?

He is cuban i'm surprise he didn't chose baseball... would have been posible in cuba National baseball system, or maybe Will not dedicated to Sport at all? Iirc his father is in cuban congress So maybe dedicated to politics?

And why be deported? He did counted as dry feet, if he is send back the dems can kiss goodbye to Florida who saved gore in 2000 election after losing West Virginia forever.

IIRC, international law favored the father's custody.

Maybe if SCOTUS decided to overturn the 11th Circuit's decision that the uncle had grounds to petition for asylum... (1)

It'd have knock on effects with Cuban relations.

Maybe the old wet foot/dry foot policy wouldn't have been scrapped.

Maybe someone could have gotten rid of the embargo before President Schweitzer did this year? (2)

OOC Notes:
(1) OTL, the 11th decided the uncle didn't, and SCOTUS declined the case.
(2) Gore 2000, McCain 2004 & 2008, Schweitzer 2012 & 2016.

He came to America young and fell in love with soccer (OOC he was photographed in soccer gear so it wouldn't be that off-base) and while he was all right at baseball, he felt like his future was in soccer. I hear he's making the leap to EPL here soon. Sucks for the Whitecaps; they were incredible with him.

Yeah, they were really influenced by then-VP Gore's speech about family court and the American dream; Janet Reno's "sacred bond" speech was her death knell in the administration. And yes, the Cuban vote really helped Gore; he won the state by about 45,000 votes he wouldn't have had otherwise.

Kind of poetic that Justice Obama was the swing vote on the challenge to Schweitzer's immigration reform. Good thing it passed; business is booming in immigration law, and don't I know it.

(OOC: How does McCain hold onto the White House in 2008? Did Gore avert the recession?)
