OoC: Analogue to the "Election in the USSA"-Thread, here is the thread for the US-in-exile, the United Free States of America, based in OTL Cuba.

OC: The Free Congress of the UFSA will be elected. And four factions fight for seats in the congress:

Republican Party: Claims to be the continuation of the prohibited mainland Republicans. Current president Juan McCain y Gonzalez takes a more hardline stance against the communist mainland. But he has also to deal with social unrest, since the collapse of several carribean banks, which had their seats in Cuba. Some people already call him a "second Hoover", because he seems to lean back and watch what will happen next. McCain said, that things will calm down, as soon as the market regenerated.

New Democratic Party: The NDP is the successor of the old Democratic party, which merged in the late 30's with the communists (Thank you Mr. Wallace). NDP-chairman Kendrick Meek demands a nationalization of all collapsed cuban bank, but only to split them into "good" and "bad banks". He also wants to implement a nation wide health care system (Which should be avaible to all citizens) and more social security. Meek has also announced, that he wants to work for a more calm relationship between to two US.

Another question is, can Meek be the first Afro-American to be elected into a high office in the UFSA?

Nacionalistas cubanos (Cuban Nationals): They demand a "Cuba for Cubans", with Spanish as the main language in Cuba. They also want to repress american influence in Cuba and place Cubans into high offices. They also want to build a naval blockade between Florida and Cuba, to prevent the masses of refugees swimming to Cuba. And at last, they want to rename the UFSA in Cuba.
Although being a fascist and nationalistic party, they want to normalize relations to the USSA, in order to fullfill their goals.

Socialistas cubanos/Cuban Socialists: They want a fully equal society on Cuba, where Americans and Cubans are equaled in the society (They are on paper, but still the Americans dominate the society). They also want to completely nationalise the banks and the industry of Cuba. And they want to have English and Spanish as equal main languages on Cuba.
Regarding the relationship with the mainland, they want a friendly relationship, and eventually a reunification with the USSA, or at least a tight alliance between the two states.

So who will get your support?

OOC: As I posted as an American on the other thread, it would be weird for me to turn around and vote in this one.

IC: It makes very little difference. The two Cuban parties will - once again - draw large crowds and stage huge demonstrations and convince everyone that Cuba is finally about to change - and then suspiciously poll in the single digits on election day. I wish I could take the UFSA seriously, because I wish we could return to normal relations with them, but their pretense of democracy has become so transparent that nobody pretends to believe them anymore.

In a perfect world, of course, the Socialistos Cubanos would win, as they're the only non-imperialist party that isn't also bat-crazy insane. But that will never happen.

I would vote for the Socialists, but of course the so-called Republicans, the renegade faction which has oppressed the Cuban masses since 1934, will win the election. Everyone knows the elections there are rigged, unlike here in the USSA, where we have free elections.

Those bank collapses in the Caribbean sound pretty bad, from what I've gathered from the papers. Just think, if we still lived in a capitalist society under the rule of these Republicans, we on the mainland might be at the mercy of banks collapses and credit shortages!

President McCain has done good work, and the people thrust him and his party. And what should McCain do regarding the bank crisis? The market will regulate itself, and it's a crime to interfere into that market. Whoever fails on the free market, doesn't deserve any help by the state. Juan McCain is the president of all Cubans and Americans!

Obviously Juan McCain y Gonzalez is going to win the rigged elections in the UFSA. Every British, Quebecois, and French political commentator has remarked that it isn't a metter if the elections are rigged, but by how much...

Considering the racial power structure in that region, you can expect that Kendrick Meek, despite his progressive leanings, will be said to be "too radical" and that his plans for reform are "too socialistic". The only thing that will change will be the percentage that the Republican Party will claim as their lead, and the Vice-President. From what has been told, she is a former prositute, so I guess it is appropriate for the country and its beliefs in the corporate system...

OOC: This is not in my character as a Newfoundlander, but as someone else.

IC: I see that the Partido Demócrata Cristiano de América (Christian Democratic Party of America) is not listed in the poll. Why is that? Yes, it's a bit "Cuban nationalist" and a bit "Cuban socialist", if you want to say that, but the PDCA at least is a 'sane' party in the UFSA, between the GOP and the NDP in terms of policies. I don't know why you consider both the Cuban nationalists and the Cuban socialists as only being representative of the hispanophone majority, since most hispanophones like me shun both parties and vote PDCA.
