And all of those had little real teeth to them and 1964 was the key bill to negro equality. The bill respects the liberty of all for the equality of all. It is not a trade off for there cannot be equality without liberty. Bigotry, however, is not liberty. How can liberty be denied to an entire race in favor of allowing another to subjugate it, and legal legislation to finally enforce that race's freedom be considered the part which is illiberal.
You are correct that bigotry is not liberty, and also correc that there cannot be equality without liberty. Abuse of the commerce clause is not liberty, thus cannot rightly be called equality. The right of all citizens of the United States regardless of color to enjoy all priviledges of citizenship must be affirmed, be they rights to vote, possess a firearm, own property, or due process of the laws and judiciary. However, the right of the federal government to regulate private property held in one individual state or another simply is not there.
