The towering Edmund Emil Kemper III, popularly known as "Big Ed", became Governor of California during the 2003 recall election. He eventually became one of the most popular politicians in the USA, was hailed as "the second coming of Teddy Roosevelt" (likely due to their similar appearances), and was considered a frontrunner for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination before choosing not to run.
His life could have taken a much darker path, though. There has been a popular rumor that while drunk one night, Kemper told his friends that he wanted to kill his abusive parents and paternal grandparents. While Kemper's statement could easily be dismissed as an exaggeration, I think he was being mostly honest, since he has admitted to decapitating dolls for pleasure during his youth. Do you think he could have actually gone through with the murders? How would California (and possibly the US) be different today if Kemper had become a killer instead of going into politics?
(OOC: I fully admit that this is one of the craziest threads to be posted here.)
